Are payment plans available for my dental treatment?

Yes. We accept many types of dental insurance and will process your claim for you upon receipt of your co-payment. We offer a low interest rate payment plan and also accept most major credit cards.

How often should I see a dentist?

The American Dental Association (ADA) guidelines recommend visiting a dentist at least twice a year for a check-up and professional cleaning. Our office also recommends a minimum of two visits per year. Upon the completion of your visit, one of our friendly dental team members will help you schedule your next appointment.

Appointments tend to fill up quickly and we want to ensure we can serve your scheduling needs.

What should I expect during my appointment?

The moment you walk through our doors, one of our friendly team members will greet you with a smile. If you haven’t filled out our initial paperwork prior to your appointment at our Milford dental office, we will take a moment to gather your insurance and health history information.

Once we have all of your dental information, you may relax in our waiting room, watch television, wait in a quiet corner or sit with your children in our play area.  One of our team members will shortly guide you back to your private examination room.

Upon getting comfortable in our state of the art dental chairs, an X-ray examination of the mouth and jaw is taken. We consider this a vital part of providing a complete diagnosis.

Next, one of our dental hygienists will perform a teeth cleaning and take a quick look at the state of your oral health.

After your cleaning is complete, Dr. Vance will perform a thorough dental examination, including an evaluation of gum health, possible tooth decay, and a TMJ evaluation if necessary. At this time, Dr. Vance can also address any questions about cosmetic dental work.

If Dr. Vance discovers the need for a treatment plan, our friendly front desk staff will provide a pre-treatment estimate of all recommended services, as well as an explanation of treatment fees, and the time involved to complete each suggested treatment.

What if I have an emergency?

Please call our office as soon as you determine that you have a dental emergency. We are happy to accommodate you in our schedule if you have a dental emergency during regular business hours. If you encounter an emergency after hours, over the weekend, or during holidays, please call our office for the doctor’s emergency contact number.

Can the dentist whiten my teeth?

Vance Dentistry offers two methods for teeth whitening: in-office and take-home trays. One session of in-office teeth whitening generally lasts one and a half to two hours, and you can read or relax during the treatment.

For take-home tray teeth whitening, we make an impression of your teeth and create a mouthguard that fits your bite. Each day you fill the mouthguard with a small amount of whitening gel and wear it thirty minutes to one hour. The at-home tray whitening process takes approximately two weeks.

Other over-the-counter daily teeth whitening products are available, but it’s important to use any bleaching product under the supervision of a dentist. To achieve the whitening results you desire, the ADA recommends that you seek the professional advice of a dentist, including examination and diagnosis of the cause of tooth discoloration, before you begin a whitening program.

What if I have a gap in my teeth, a chipped tooth or teeth that do not respond to normal teeth whitening methods?

We have many different procedures that can help these problems. Porcelain veneers are designed to look like your natural teeth and are individually and permanently attached to the front of your existing teeth.

Veneers can be positioned to close gaps. Bonding utilizes a composite material made of plastic to fill in areas of your teeth and correct chipping and shape problems. Both porcelain veneers and bonding are color-matched to the rest of your teeth.
